The Ecology Research Center (Pusat Riset Ekologi - PRE) of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) successfully concluded its 8th Jamming Session, titled “Diving into Local Wisdom in Conservation and Biodiversity Development!” The virtual event, held on Thursday, September 25, 2025, was highly interactive and attended by over 350 participants.
The session provided a dynamic platform for discussing the critical role of indigenous and local knowledge in biodiversity conservation and sustainable development. It was organized under the purview of PRE's activity groups, namely the Local and Traditional Ecological Knowledge Group and the Ethnoecology and Area Management Group, whose work is intrinsically linked to the study and application of local ecological wisdom.
The Head of the Ecology Research Center, Asep Hidayat, Ph.D., opened the event, which featured distinguished speakers. Prof. Dr. Wawan Sujarwo, Head of the Local and Traditional Ecological Knowledge Group, and Dr. Parwa Oryzanti from the Ethnoecology and Area Management Group, provided insights from their respective fields.
A keynote presentation was delivered by Prof. Dr. Golar, a Professor from the Faculty of Forestry at Tadulako University, who spoke on "The Synergy between Local Wisdom and National Parks in Biodiversity Conservation." Furthermore, Dr. Uce Lestari, a lecturer from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at the University of Jambi, presented an inspiring case study on "Butterfly Pea Flower: An Empirical Journey to Innovative, Marketable Products in the Modern Marketplace."
The discussion was skillfully moderated by Radisti Praptiwi, Ph.D., with Susana Yuni Indriyanti serving as the Master of Ceremonies.
